Welcome to Israel! Arrive Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv; meeting and transfer to your hotel in Jerusalem. Tonight, meet your Tour Directress for a Welcome Get-Together Dinner at the Mamilla Hotel celebrating your arrival in the “Golden City of Jerusalem”. D

THURSDAY, DAY 3 – JERUSALEM
This morning, our tour begins as we enter the gates of the Old City to the Jewish Quarter. Walk along the Cardo, the colonnaded main street of Byzantine Jerusalem for an introduction to the history of Israel. Visit the Herodian Mansions, a completely excavated residential quarter from 2000 years ago. On to the Davidson Center -- you’ll see a fantastic computer imaging of the Temple Mount. Continue through the amazing Southern Wall excavations to the Western Wall, the only remaining portion of the Second Temple. View the spectacular golden Dome of the Rock. Then, an extraordinary walk through the centuries in the astonishing Hasmonean Tunnel (tunnel schedule permitting.) Enjoy a Falafel Lunch in the Old City before continuing via the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Sepulchre; walk through the exotic bazaars with their wondrous aromas. End the day with an optional visit to Bethlehem. Evening: “Night Spectacular” Sound & Light Show at the Tower of David. BL

Visit Yad Vashem, memorial to the Holocaust. Walk through the Museum, the Children’s Pavilion and along the Avenue of the Righteous, dedicated to Christians who rescued Jews during the Holocaust. Afterwards, drive via the Supreme Court Building and the Knesset (Parliament) to the Shrine of the Book, home of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Time for a quick walk through the new Israel Museum; see the Scale Model of ancient Jerusalem. Continue to the bustling Machane Yehuda market – join the shoppers preparing for the Sabbath. Tonight, a unique experience -- visit the illuminated Western Wall with the throngs of worshipers welcoming the Sabbath. Afterwards, share together a Traditional Friday Night Dinner at your hotel. BD

Evening is free to enjoy the fantastic Mamilla Pedestrian walkway with its many cafes, boutiques and pubs. B

Travel via the Judean desert and the shores of the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, to Masada. Ascend by cable car to this last stronghold of the Zealots in their struggle against the Romans. Visit the excavations, Herod the Great’s palace, synagogue and bathhouse. (Bat Mitzvah ceremonies arranged upon request.) Descend from these lofty heights and continue to your hotel located on the shores of the Dead Sea. Time for an “unsinkable” swim in the buoyant waters of the Dead Sea or indulge yourself in some of the unique and very special thermal pools or an optional spa treatment. The Dead Sea is totally rejuvenating! Dinner at the hotel. Overnight at the Dead Sea. BD

Then, drive through the Galilean mountains to the Rimon Winery, one of the few in the world where pomegranates are used to make wines. Tour and lecture at the winery includes sampling the wines and jams as well as lunch on the site. Continue through the Golan Heights for a greater understanding of this region of Israel before arriving at our Kibbutz Hotel. Today will focus on discovering and learning about the diverse religious sites in the Galilee. We begin with a drive to Tabgha, site of the Multiplication of the Fish and Loaves. Continue to Capernaum to see the ruins of an ancient synagogue dating back to the 4th century. Then, proceed to the Mt.of Beatitudes, site of the Sermon on the Mount; here, you’ll see the extraordinary panoramic view of the entire Galilee. On to Safed, one of Judaism’s holiest cities, where Kabbalah flourished during the golden age; walk through the alleyways, see the ancient synagogues and the charming Artists’ Quarter. Tonight, Dinner at the Kibbutz with an informative exchange about women in the Israeli Army. Overnight at the Kibbutz. BD

Proceed to the Druze Village of Ussifiya; tour the village, the Childcare Center and meet a Druze woman; she will share her perspective of life as a Druze woman in Israel and this community. Then, visit a Druze home; see the preparation of typical Druze cuisine and enjoy lunch in the village. Afterwards, drive to the Aharonson House in the town of Zichron Yaacov. Listen to the inspirational story about Sara Aharonson, a courageous woman whose tragic romance story was intertwined with the struggle of the Jewish people in pre-state Israel. Tour her home, unchanged from the time she lived there in the early 1900’s. Then, travel along the scenic coastal road to spectacular Caesarea; explore the astounding Roman and Crusader ruins including the impressive theater and aqueduct. Continue to dynamic and cosmopolitan Tel Aviv and your hotel (be sure to enjoy the complimentary services of the Club Lounge). Evening: Panoramic Night Tour of Tel Aviv, followed by a delicious Dinner in the lively Yemenite Quarter. A later start this morning so you can enjoy some sleep and the lovely breakfast at your hotel. Then, visit Independence Hall where Ben Gurion fervently proclaimed Israel’s independence in 1948. Drive through the main streets of Tel Aviv, the “White City”, proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site; view the splendid Bauhaus architecture. Tel Aviv has the largest number of buildings in this unique style of any city in the world! Pass Yitzhak Rabin Square, dedicated to the late Prime Minister before reaching the Carmel Market (don’t forget to taste the delicious strawberries) and the charming and quaint Neve Tzedek area (Tel Aviv’s “Soho”), the first neighborhood constructed outside of Jaffa. Continue to the Ilana Goor Museum in Old Jaffa, located in the artist’s private home. Time to wander through the cobblestone alleyways of this old port city, magnificently restored, and shop at the many gorgeous galleries and boutiques. Rest of the day at leisure to prepare for your return home. Optional shopping is also nearby at the beautiful and newly developed “Tahana” (converted railroad station) with its many upscale boutiques and cafes. B
